ABOUT US

Since 1979, Ballet Academy East has been a vibrant center for dance on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. In 1978, Julia Dubno, the founder and director of Ballet Academy East was selected by Christine Fokine to run the Fokine Ballet School. That experience led to the opening of Ballet Academy East in a brownstone on East 79th Street with one small studio in 1979.

 Today the school has five spacious studios, a world-renowned faculty and continues to flourish. Miss Dubno continues to manage the day-to-day operations and is in close contact with the faculty and staff in order to be kept abreast of all areas of the school.

Darla Hoover, Associate Artistic Director and Syllabus Coordinator of the Pre-Professional Division, along with BAE’s stellar faculty, prepares dancers for professional ballet careers.

Alumni of BAE are currently performing in companies across the country, including New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, BalletMet, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Ballet Memphis, Alabama Ballet, Kansas City Ballet and Los Angeles Ballet.

Click on the program buttons to view full information and to register.  YOUNG DANCERS DIVISION A joyful introduction to dance for chldren 18 months-6 years of age; Petit Dancers Progam for 18 months-2 years and Pre-Ballet, Tap, and Modern for ages 3-6. SUMMERDANCE & MARCH MINI-SESSION A full day, program for girls ages 4-10 over the summer and 4-8 in March. Meets Monday through Thursday. Each day is filled with fun and creative activities focusing on the arts. The program includes ballet, tap, modern, yoga, cooking, arts & crafts, musical theatre, jazz, drama, origami, circus arts, gymnastics, and more! FALL 2014-15 INFORMATION Registration for the 2014-15 School year will begin in June. Would you like to request a specific day and time for a group of children to attend class at BAE this fall? PRE-PROFESSIONAL DIVISION For students ages 7-18 aspiring towards professional careers in ballet. NEW: Male Scholarship Program Eight full-year tuition scholarships will be awarded to male students between the ages of 7 and 18. International Student Visa For pre-professional students who have been accepted into the program and need student visas in order to attend. Foreign Student Application SUMMER INTENSIVE A two-week, end of summer, rigorous program for students ages 9-18. Admission is by audition only. Video auditions are accepted. Upcoming Audition for Summer Intensive: Saturday, May 10, 2014. Click on the button below to register for the audition.

OPEN ADULT CLASSES
Ballet, Tap, Zumba™, Jazz, Yoga and Pilates – all levels. Classes for adults and teens (minimum age 14).

PRIMARY CLASSES
For children ages 6-7 (children entering first grade in their academic school). Primary is the bridge between pre-ballet and either the Pre-Professional Division or the Enrichment Classes.

ENRICHMENT CLASSES
Classes for children ages 7 and up who wish to study ballet recreationally. No audition is required.
