Sephardic Academy of Manhattan hosted its fourth annual gala on Thursday night February 26th. The school is in its fourth year educating young children, ages two through five, at their state of the art center on 67th Street and Second Avenue. Sephardic Academy is known for its excellent early childhood education, which focuses on experiential learning in both Judaic and secular studies. There is a strong emphasis on Sephardic culture and heritage and all families appreciate the warmth, love and individual attention their children receive.

Every year the Parents Association puts on a memorable gala, with top-notch food, drinks and entertainment for a worthwhile cause. This year was no exception and Gala Chair Lilly Shomer made sure every detail of the evening was perfect. The PA also organized a Chinese Auction with prizes ranging from a trip to Greece to a $3,600 American Express Card. A brand new silent auction was added to the evening and 5 extraordinary pieces of artwork, made by SAM students, were available to the highest bidders.

This year’s honoree was Mr. Albert Chehebar
, one of the founding supporters of the school. Mr. Chehebar spoke about the importance of investing in our children’s education and his words inspired many to give generously to the school. As Mr. Chehebar was born in Cairo, a special exhibit of photographs from the Jewish community in Egypt was on display. It was heartwarming to see younger, American-born community members learning about the illustrious history of their ancestors.

The gala was a beautiful celebration of the community’s history as well as its future, placed in the care of a capable and devoted team of lay leaders and educators.
