TSEDEK : Children are our future
June 24, 2026

About Tsedek:
Tsedek offers disadvantaged Jewish children the opportunity that all children
should have in order to lead a happy, healthy, and normal life. Tsedek has 17
branches throughout Israel including seven children’s homes for orphans and
foster kids.
School in Israel ends at 1pm, leaving many children without any adult supervision
all afternoon and evening. Children of all ages can visit any Tsedek branch and
have a safe haven to go to, a place they can get a hot meal, help with their
homework, encouragement from counselors, access to computers, daily
afternoon and evening activities, and a warm hug.
Day after day, Tsedek enhances children’s’ confidence, teaches life skills, and
improves academic performances.
Programs include:
• Afternoon & Evening Activities

History:
Tsedek was created by Chief Rabbi Paul Roitman (1920-2007), a French Zionist
resistance hero in Nazi-occupied World War II and an important figure who has
helped rebuild the French-Jewish community after the war. Most notably, he was
key in helping the Jews of North Africa integrate in France. He immigrated to
Israel in 1970 where he continued his important work; helping disadvantaged
youth.
There, Chief Rabbi Roitman observed that the children from poor neighborhoods
faced great distress and dangers, such as malnutrition, dropping out of school,
delinquency, drugs, alcohol, family violence etc. To remedy that situation, he
created Tsedek in the 1980s, an organization dedicated to helping
disadvantaged children lead healthy, happy, and productive lives.
